BRYAN, TX – Nearly four years into her 20-year prison sentence, child sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell demanded Tuesday that she also be given credit for the adults she trafficked.
Speaking from her prison cell, Maxwell claimed that classifying her purely as a child sex trafficker is not only inaccurate, but disparaging. Citing issues with her reputation and safety in prison, she said it was important that she set the record straight.
“Everything that’s been said about me in the media has been entirely one-sided. The crimes I was convicted of, they don’t accurately represent who I am and what I’ve done,” Maxwell said. “Did I successfully traffic children to millionaire pedophiles? Yes. Did I also manage to wrangle some adults? Also yes. And that was much harder!”
While the four women who testified against her claimed they were minors at the time of their abuse, Maxwell stated that she believed credit should be given where it is due. When asked about the witness’ claims, Maxwell began listing off names of victims who were of legal age at the time of their trafficking.
“I can’t believe none of the adult victims wanted to speak out. It was so humiliating being in that courtroom.” After pausing to gather her emotions, Maxwell continued, “It makes me look bad, you know? Grooming children… there’s a reason it’s called ‘child’s play’. It’s too easy. It really made everyone believe I was only capable of giving Jeff little girls. I worked too hard for that to be my reputation, It’s just unfair.
“When people think of me now, they’ll say ‘wow, Ghislaine was the best at trafficking women!’ Not just girls, women,” she said. “That’s how I want to be known, as the best.”
